OUR PROJECTS

Scientific Board of Centre de services scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys

Why was this project created?

At the Centre de services scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys (CSSMB), all decisions are guided by the impact they will have on the success of its 69,100 students, both youth and adults. During the three years preceding the pandemic, from 2017 to 2020, graduation rates in Quebec showed no improvement among four groups of vulnerable students: students with an intervention plan (IP) or identified learning difficulties, students from disadvantaged backgrounds, students from immigrant backgrounds, and boys. However, during the same reference period, substantial gains were observed among CSSMB students.

Supporting the principle of equal opportunity, a crucial mission of education in building a fairer society, requires among other things, the committed implementation of research-based practices. This is why the CSSMB acts responsibly by prioritizing the adoption of evidence-based educational and management practices. To achieve this goal, it partners with the scientific community, particularly in the field of education. The CSSMB is therefore opening the doors of its 103 schools and establishments to the scientific community, thereby contributing to the advancement and mobilization of knowledge in education.

Although the world has changed significantly, one certainty remains: the learning organization that Marguerite-Bourgeoys has become remains steadfast in its mission to support its students, both youth and adults.

Objectives

Dedicated to supporting the evaluation of existing practices, as well as the implementation of best educational and management practices, the Marguerite-Bourgeoys Scientific Board brings together researchers from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and the international community whose work aligns with the educational mission of the CSSMB: to make equal opportunity in education a reality.

These principles form the foundation of the Scientific Board, which supports the organization’s educational and administrative services with the goal of strengthening and optimizing all practices and decision-making processes. Led by Mr. Éric Lauzon, Assistant Director General at the CSSMB, the Scientific Board pursues five objectives:

01

Address the needs of the field

Address the diverse needs of the 103 educational establishments.

02

Guide decision-making

Guide decision-making by relying on scientific evidence.

03

Support high-impact initiatives

Support the evaluation of ongoing practices, as well as the implementation and sustainability of scientifically validated high-impact practices.

04

Promote collaboration between the research and educational community

Bringing science and educational environment closer by fostering a culture of evidence-based practice through stronger connections between the scientific community, decision-makers, and staff members.

05

Strengthen the practice of consultation

Strengthen the practice of consulting scientific expertise and integrating scientific knowledge within educational and administrative teams, with the aim of facilitating, when the time comes, the implementation of recommendations from the Institut national d’excellence en éducation (INEÉ).

Implementation Steps

01
Identify the practices currently in place within the Centre de services scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys.
02
Compare the practices identified in Step 1 with exemplary practices in education research (literature review and conceptual framework for implementation evaluation).
03
Identify gaps between current practices and those recognized as exemplary by research, and adjust them to support the implementation of optimized practices.
04
Establish implementation strategies, including:
-Launching a pilot project in a number of schools.
-Updating the support and training provided by educational consultants from the Educational Resources Department in selected schools by integrating optimized practices.
-Supporting staff professional development by providing the training and guidance required to enhance current practices.
05
Evaluate implementation and measure the impact of the practices deployed among the targeted groups:
-Document the issues and challenges addressed, as well as the factors that facilitated the implementation of optimized practices among teams.
-Produce an analysis identifying the conditions required to support successful large-scale implementation across the organization.
06
-Proceed with institution-wide implementation.
-Establish monitoring and governance mechanisms for large-scale implementation in order to optimize its impact.
