Although COVID-19 affected children less severely than adults, a number of children still required hospitalization either for acute illness or for a multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. Our pan-Canadian research group conducted a prospective study to identify risk factors associated with the need for hospitalization as well as the outcomes of these patients. At the same time, pediatric hospitals experienced significant fluctuations in patient volume, including for mental health and non-infectious diseases, which deserve our attention.
